Sometimes a customer walks in and says, “You should write a book about this place.”
And you think: no one would believe it.
Well, someone finally did.
Author Kacey Alexander asked a lot of questions, took far too many notes, and bought an alarming number of grooming products. She’s written a cosy crime novel set in a fictional village that’s definitely not Banchory - but locals might recognise the type of shop at its centre. (Candle range included.)
A Side Hustle in Murder follows Morven Mackenzie, a shopkeeper who becomes the prime suspect in a murder after an unfortunate Airbnb incident involving a bathrobe, an ex-husband, and one very dead landlord.
It’s sharp, funny, and set in Royal Deeside.
Which is probably where the similarities end.

Well done, Kacey!
